Technical Production Manager

 

Responsible to: Programme Manager 

Working Closely With: Wider OCT Team 

Salary: £35k pro rata 

Location: OCT main office and performance venues across borough of Oldham. 

Contract: Fixed Term (12 months September 25-September 26, with a view to extension). 

Hours: 21 hours per week to be worked flexibly across our seasonal programmes 

Holidays: 30 days pro rata (including bank holidays)

Probation Period: 3 months  

Oldham Coliseum Theatre Ltd. is seeking to appoint a Technical Production Manager to lead our programme of work in 2025-26.

 

Purpose 

The Technical Production Manager plays a crucial role across our ambitious programme of work. The role-holder will work closely with our Programme Manager to lead the production and practical delivery of our seasonal programmes. 

Our work currently takes place in traditional and non-traditional theatre spaces across Oldham. The Technical Production Manager will be key to the successful end to end operation of our programme.  

  

Job Description 

  • Organise and attend site visits across the borough of Oldham, liasing with relevant performance venues and acting as key point of contact between OCT artists and venues. 
  • Source technical equipment needed for programme delivery and build in-house technical capacity 
  • Set and manage the production budget for the wider programme in collaboration with the OCT team 
  • Lead Production meetings and attend internal meetings where required (including in-person attendance at Wednesday team meetings in Oldham) 
  • Provide technical mentoring to OCT’s artistic community on their work. 
  • Work with wider team on new commissions from a technical view. 
  • Lead on programmes of development and career pathways for young people. 
  • Operate technical elements of events where in-house venue support is not provided. 
  • Lead on recruitment and scheduling of freelance technical crew where required. 
  • Manage freelance technical crews and ensuring technical staffing plans are in place. 
  • Lead on get-ins and get-outs of all events. 
  • Oversee event Risk Assessments. 
  • Lead on technical hires including ordering to spec, receiving deliveries and returning equipment. 
  • Adhere to all company policy and procedures and ensure health and safety working compliance. 
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned by OCT. 

Essential Experience  

  • Technical Production Management experience across live indoor and outdoor events. 
  • Understanding of technical requirements and logisitics of outdoor and venue-based production (licensing, security, car parking etc.) 
  • Driving License 
  • Knowledge of sector Health and Safety legislation and compliance. 

Desirable Experience: 

  • Experience putting technical crew teams together. 
  • Experience working closely with designers and workshop builders. 
  • Knowledge of projection mapping or equivalent. 
  • Understanding of a wide range of artform’s technical requirements. 
  • Knowledge of performance spaces across the borough of Oldham 
  • Knowledge of Theatre Green Book and understanding of sustainability issues within technical theatre. 
  • Experience of Accessible Practice
