You're My World - Work In Progress

  • Description

Damien Dunkerly knows he’s destined for stardom.

Damien Dunkerly knows he’s destined for stardom. At primary school Suzy Mckenzie called him a ‘talentless nobody’ and a week later his parents ran off to Faliraki to open a karaoke bar, but he hasn’t let that kill his dreams. Nana Doreen has always encouraged him to believe that he can do anything, that fame and fortune await him. He’s just got to work out how to get there. With an Aldi bag full of ideas and his treasured signed photo of Cilla, the sky’s the limit for Damien.

You’re my World is a work in progress piece by Oldham based artist Mark Newsome supported by Oldham Coliseum’s artist development programme.

    Created by Mark Newsome
Co-written by Mark Newsome & Sarah Nelson
Directed by Sarah Nelson (BBC Northern Voices)

The project is also in early development with award winning TV/Film producer Gina Lyons.

Mark Newsome is a talented actor hailing from Oldham. Born and bred in a working-class family, Mark's gift for acting was unearthed during his teenage years at Oldham Theatre Workshop. He further cultivated his skills through training at the National Youth Theatre and later pursued a professional education at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, Wales. Mark's career is highlighted by his lead role in the critically acclaimed one-man show, "Phil Pearson's Blackpool: What A Shit Place to Die". This compelling performance explores Mark's journey towards self-acceptance, touching on themes of sexuality, autism, and personal battles with addiction. Not confined to the stage, Mark graced our screens as Prisoner 'Streaky' in the popular Channel 4 drama series, SCREW. Beyond acting, Mark's talent shines through as a gifted Comedian, adding humour and depth to his multifaceted artistic portfolio.
