What time should I arrive?

It’s best to arrive at the theatre with some time to spare before the advertised start time of the show – the start time is on the website under each show – especially if you’re collecting tickets from Box Office, as it can get fairly busy in our foyer.

If you’ve reserved tickets for collection and payment at Box Office we ask you to collect them from an hour before the show is due to start. You can purchase tickets on the night (subject to availability).

What time do the auditorium doors open?

Our auditorium opens 30 minutes before each performance starts, giving you plenty of time to find your seats.

What should I wear?

Wear what you feel comfortable in. Some people like to dress up and others go for a more casual look. It’s entirely up to you.

What happens if I'm late?

We know that sometimes the traffic is bad or the babysitter was late; in order to avoid disrupting the show, and at the Front of House Manager’s discretion, a member of the Front of House team will show you to your seat at a time that is suitable in the action – meaning that you still get to enjoy your afternoon or evening.  

There’s a Relay Screen in the Stalls Bar which means you can watch the show in the bar – if there is some time before a suitable gap in the action.

Is there an interval?

Our usual interval time is 20 minutes and most performances have this, but it’s probably best to check with staff for the specific show you are coming to see or check details on our website. 

You can pre-order your interval drinks at the bar before the first half of the show so your drinks will be waiting for you at the interval.

What time does the show finish?

Our Box Office team can advise on the length of any show from the date of the first performance, you can contact them on 0161 624 2829.

Before the final dress rehearsal it’s very hard to say exactly how long a show is, and we wouldn’t want to give you incorrect information.  We add the running time to our website on the opening day of the show so do check there.  This information is also displayed on the door of the Box Office as you enter the theatre.

How old do you have to be to come to the theatre by yourself?

Children under the age of 13 years must be accompanied by an adult. Children aged 13 years can come to the theatre without an adult, but cannot be responsible for younger children. Aged 16 and over is considered an adult and may be responsible for younger children.

Does a baby/toddler need a ticket?

Babes in Arms entry is free for children up to two years old who will not need their own seat. 

How many wheelchair spaces are available in the auditorium?

There are six wheelchair spaces in our main auditorium, all located on the ground floor in the Stalls for ease of access.  Our Access page gives more information about this. Click here for Access information.

 

Disabled customers are also entitled to a free companion ticket if required. Please mention any specific access requirements when booking and then we can accommodate you accordingly.

Can you book wheelchair spaces online?

The best way to book a wheelchair space is to speak to one of our Box Office team so they can make sure that you have a good view of the stage and you and your friends can all sit together. Give them a ring on 0161 624 2829 or email access@coliseum.org.uk

Is there a passenger lift in the building?

The Coliseum is a very old building – we’ve been here since 1887 – and way back then the architects didn’t build any space for a lift – so unfortunately we don’t have any public lifts, but our ground floor facilities are fully accessible and our staff are always more than happy to help with your requirements if needed. Click here for Access information.

Do you have Accessible performances for Blind and Deaf / Hard of Hearing Audiences?

All Coliseum productions and some visiting touring productions have BSL (British Sign Language) interpreted performances for Deaf / Hard of Hearing Audiences.  We are introducing Captioned performances for some Coliseum productions and some touring productions have this facility.   We have Infrared facilities for Deaf / Hard of Hearing Audiences.  Similarly, we have Audio Described performances for Blind audiences.  Click here for Access information.

What are the bar opening times?

The Stalls Bar and Circle Bar are both open an hour before each performance and during the interval. The Stalls bar is also open after the curtain comes down after some shows, and you can often spot some of the cast and Production staff enjoying a post-show drink.

What refreshments do you sell?

A range of drinks (hot and cold, alcoholic and soft) are available to buy. Head to the bar, or see the Front of House teams in the main foyer or up in the circle. You can also pre-order interval drinks upon arrival to avoid queuing during the busy interval period. If the interval finishes before you’ve had chance to finish your drink, you can simply take a plastic glass into the auditorium with you – just ask at the bar for one.

We also sell a selection of ice creams and confectionary which are available to buy in the main foyers, from behind the bar before the performance and during the interval.  If you don’t want to leave the comfort of the auditorium, you can also buy ice creams and refreshments there from our Front of House team.

How can I buy a programme?

All Coliseum produced shows have an accompanying programme giving background information on the play and a cast list of who’s appearing in the show plus their biographies. They’ve available from all sales points around the theatre. You can also pre-order your programme by phoning Box Office on 0161 624 2829.

How many seats can you book online?

You can book up to nine seats online for any given performance. If you’ve got a bigger group and would like to book more seats,  our Box Office team are happy to help on 0161 624 2829.

Do you have special offers for Groups and Schools?

For most shows we do. This varies from show to show so it's best to contact Box Office for information about group booking discounts by emailing boxoffice@coliseum.org.uk or calling 0161 624 2829. 

Some shows we have at the Coliseum are brought to us by external promoters and they price the shows, therefore we're unable to offer group discounts.

How many NUS/Under 26 tickets can one person book at a time?

The maximum number of Under 26 / NUS tickets you can book is four. We won’t check your entire life history but we may check your ID on the night so please bring some with you.  The right kind of ID includes passport, birth certificate, NUS card, college/university ID or driving license – anything with your date of birth or student status. Under 26 /NUS tickets are available for all Coliseum productions except pantomime. Under 26 / NUS tickets are also available for selected touring shows.

Lost Property

If you’ve lost something, please call our Box Office on 0161 624 2829 during opening hours. Alternatively, please email boxoffice@coliseum.org.uk with a description of what you’ve lost, where you think you lost it and when.  We’ll look in our lost property box for you.

Phones / Cameras / Video Cameras

To ensure everyone’s enjoyment of the performance on stage, we ask that phones, cameras and video cameras aren’t used in the auditorium.  Please ensure your mobile phone is switched off.  

Photography in the auditorium is not permitted during a performance and video cameras or any other recording devices are not allowed into the auditorium.

Rules on smoking

The Coliseum is a non-smoking building and electronic cigarettes are also not permitted.
