Oldham Coliseum Theatre is delighted to reveal its upcoming Spring-Summer 2015 season which features a diverse range of comedy, music, dance, drama and musical, including lots of family fun and exhibiting local talent.
We open the season with Forever Young, a musical set in a particularly theatrical nursing home for actors with a group of pensionable performers determined to proof that it’s not all behind them. We are thrilled to be producing the show with Nottingham Playhouse who is putting the show on stage for the third time in as many years due to sold out performances and popular demand. With slightly surreal performances ranging from Nirvana to Aqua to popular panto routines, Forever Young gives you a lesson in how to grow old disgracefully.
Following the huge success of last year’s northern comedy Hobson’s Choice we are thrilled to once again be working with the Octagon Theatre, Bolton, on our new production of Hindle Wakes. After spending an illicit weekend in Blackpool with the mill owner’s son, Fanny Hawthorn returns home to find that their secret trip has been discovered. Fanny soon finds herself fighting for her independence in the face of pressures to marry and become an ‘honest woman’. Written by Stanley Houghton in 1910, this witty drama caused national controversy for being one of the first plays to include a working class female lead.
In May the fast moving comedy Boeing Boeing flies into Oldham following hit revivals in London and New York. With three air stewardess girlfriends and a bachelor pad in Paris, Bernard is living the high life. But when a new state of the art Boeing joins the fleet and his careful arrangements begin to fall apart, turbulence looks very much on the horizon. Robin Herford, who has recently directed productions at the Coliseum including Bedroom Farce and Private Lives, returns to Oldham to direct this riotous farce.
In June we close our season with the new musical Dreamers written by local talent Cathy Crabb and Lindsay Williams and directed by our very own Kevin Shaw. It’s the 90’s and every weekend a group of young girls shake off the weekly grind with a messy night on the town, usually in the smallest night club in the world, Dreamers. Twenty years on, the scattered group of woman hold mixed memories of those nights. Dreamers is a nostalgic musical with original songs and 90’s indie classics.
