Oldham Remembers the First World War

In the run up to Oldham Coliseum Theatre’s forthcoming production of Joan Littlewood’s satirical musical Oh What A Lovely War (Friday 8 September – Saturday 30 September), which was in part informed by the real life memories of soldiers in the trenches, we’re pleased to share with you news of the events programmed across Oldham by Oldham Council to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.  We’ve programmed Oh What A Lovely War as part of this anniversary.

Over the coming months, the specially created Oldham Remembers project is developing a series of events and activities in museums, galleries, archives and community groups exploring a broad range of topics that are part of Oldham Council’s commitment to honouring the contribution Oldham people made to the war.  From parades and exhibitions to walks and opportunities to explore your own local and family history, there’s plenty going on and you can also find details about how to register your own First World War event on the Oldham Remembers’ site.
