Besides programming our nationally famous pantomime at Christmas which has delighted families for generations, we host touring shows suitable for all the family.
We want your visit to be the best it possibly can be so we work hard to be family friendly at Oldham Coliseum Theatre.
Here’s some information to help you plan your visit.
Travel information
Car parking
Access to the building with your pram or pushchair
Access into the theatre building is via four steps, although there is a side door just up Fairbottom Street – the street on which we’re located – which is on a flat surface. Just ring the doorbell and someone from our Box Office or Front of House teams will meet you.
Access to the building if you’re disabled
Buggy parking
We’re a small building, and, although there’s no purpose built space to park your buggy or pram, our staff will be only too happy to find somewhere safe for you to store it.
Baby change facilities
We’ve got baby change facilities in the Ladies’ toilets in the Stalls Bar, and in the Unisex Accessible toilet in the Education Suite, just off the Stalls Bar. Both are on the ground floor.
Food and drink
Our Stalls Bar – on the ground floor – and our Circle Bar – on the first floor – serves fruit juices and cordials.
Breastfeeding
We’re breastfeeding friendly at the Coliseum. You’re welcome to breastfeed in all public areas. If you need quiet time with your baby, our Education Suite, just off the Stalls Bar, is a good place.
Staff and Customer Experience Volunteers are on hand to help you
Our staff and Customer Experience volunteers are here to help you: ask at Box Office for any help you need. Or ask our badged Customer Experience Volunteers or Front of House Managers. We want you and your family enjoy your visit to the Coliseum.
Age Suitability
You know your family best, so although we will advise about age suitability for our theatre shows, this is for guidance only. We will tell you if there is content that some families might find more challenging. If you need any information, please contact Box Office or check on our website.
Family Ticket Pricing
Our annual pantomime has a family ticket deal every year, and we try to make that deal as flexible as possible to accommodate the family in the 21st century. Wherever possible, with visiting touring productions suitable for families, there are family offers available. We are conscious that Christmas, in particular, is an expensive time of year for many families so we serve refreshments at accessible prices, our website gives you information about Oldham’s various restaurants and cafes where you can eat as a family (many have special theatre offers) and where free or low cost parking is available. Oldham Coliseum Theatre is a registered charity so keeping prices affordable for our audiences is a very important consideration for us.
Families with Disabled People
If you need information before your visit check out our Access page which gives information on making your booking, getting here and access in and around the building. There is also information on special interpreted performances for Disabled people like our Infrared Assisted Listening System for Deaf audiences, as well as the dates of our special performances such as British Sign Language Interpreted and Captioned performances for Deaf audiences. We have Audio Described performances for Blind audiences including touch tours. Although our building was built in 1887, with no lift, we always go the extra mile for our audiences. If you have any Access needs or feedback on our services, please contact our Box Office on 0161 624 2829 or access@coliseum.org.uk
“Went to the afternoon performance of Sleeping Beauty with my son, who is a wheelchair user, my mum and my son’s carer. Nothing was too much trouble – they even took an extra seat out to accommodate my son’s wheelchair which is very big! Well done Coliseum! Definitely not to be missed!” Facebook Review, December 2016.
