Mother Tongues From Farther Lands
By Sajeela Kershi
Starring: Shobna Gulati,  Shobu Kapoor,  Sajeela Kershi and Shyama Perera

“Here's to strong women, may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.”

Mother Tongues from Farther Lands is a spoken word/theatre show full of fascinating, fearless and funny stories from those whose voices can often be absent despite being the backbone of South Asian culture - women.

Taking inspiration from communities across the UK, professional performers bring fascinating, fearless and funny monologues to life.

Sajeela Kershi, comedian, writer and creator of the multi-award-winning, sell-out national tour of Immigrant Diaries, has been commissioned to devise this new performance.  She and her cast, which includes some familiar faces from stage and screen, invite communities to come celebrate the real life stories and lives of the unsung inspirational South Asian women across the UK.

This show shows the strength, tenacity and bravery at the core of these diverse kick-ass women.

Join the party! Audiences are encouraged to come dressed in something fun and colourful.

Southbank Centre’s Alchemy has commissioned Sajeela Kershi to develop this new performance, working with participants throughout its creation, in partnership with Alchemy national partners: Black Country Touring, Cast Doncaster and Oldham Coliseum Theatre, generously supported by Arts Council England

Special thanks to the the women's groups in Doncaster, Oldham, Wolverhampton and London, who generously gave up their time to contribute and be involved in the creative process of this show.
