Hobson's Choice

An Oldham Coliseum Theatre, Octagon Theatre, Bolton and New Vic Theatre, Newcastle-under-Lyme Production

Common sense meets pomposity in this classic northern comedy

Hobson’s Bootmakers make a pretty penny and Henry Hobson spends most of those pennies down at the local pub. The bolshie bootmaker forces his three unpaid daughters and overworked apprentice to do all the hard work while he reaps the praise for his respectable and high quality business.

But Hobson’s cushy life is threatened when his gutsy oldest daughter resolves to marry the underpaid apprentice. She walks circles around her haughty father with her quick wit and bowls him over with her audacious determination.

With a feisty and humorous approach, Hobson’s Choice leaves the audience no choice at all but to laugh and cheer as early girl power is brought to the forefront in this hugely popular, gritty comedy.
