Blonde Bombshells of 1943

Wartime band-leader Betty is in trouble. Her all-girl swing group, the Blonde Bombshells, was the greatest in the North, but it’s lost half its members to illicit liaisons with American GIs.

With performance on the BBC wireless imminent, the Bombshells hastily recruit new talent. Enter an innocent school-girl, a nun, an upper-class tart and a man not afraid of donning a frock if it keeps him out of national service, and Betty and her motley crew must prepare to give the performance of their lives.

Based on Alan Plater’s nostalgic BAFTA winning TV film The Last of the Blonde Bombshells starring Judi Dench, this fun, feel-good musical is filled with magnificent live swing band performances of 40’s classics by Glenn Miller, George Formby and Fats Waller.
