Spring Summer 2012 Season Announced
(13 / 12 / 11)The Spring Summer 2012 Season is a brand new chapter for the Coliseum. The company has never performed an entire season entirely away from their Fairbottom Street base before. The season will involve a fantastic nationwide tour in collaboration with theatre company imitating the dog, Coliseum produced performances at The Grange Arts Centre and a huge open air promenade production in Alexandra Park written specifically for Oldham.
The Coliseum has pulled out all the stops to make sure audiences are able to book tickets and travel to the new venues as easily as possible. Box Office will be set up right in the centre of Oldham in Unit 12, Albion Street, next to Tommy Field Market making it easier than ever to pop in and book your favourite seats. Booking will be easier on the purse strings as well with ticket prices all rolled back to what they were in 2009. There will even be a dedicated coach service from Oldham to Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield where the first production of the season opens.
Take a look at what’s on offer in this exciting season:
The Hound of the Baskervilles: 12 –17 March
By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, adapted by Clive Francis
Directed by Kevin Shaw
Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield
The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of the greatest stories of the 20th century and its macabre appeal has made it the most popular of the Sherlock Holmes adventures.
Oldham Coliseum and innovative visual design team imitating the dog collaborate to fuse different theatrical traditions including video and projection to create the dark and sinister world of the famous Baker Street detective.
We’ll be providing coaches from Oldham to Huddersfield for our regular audience.
Move Over Moriarty: 3 – 7 April
By LipService
The Grange Arts Centre
LipService are back to present this companion piece to The Hound of the Baskervilles. Multi-award winners Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding play an array of characters, moving effortlessly – well, almost – from frock to frock coat in their inimitable style.
Alfie: 11 – 28 April
By Bill Naughton
Directed by David Thacker
The Grange Arts Centre
Alfie is Bill Naughton’s most famous work, it’s a great story set in the swinging 60s, following the life of a Don Juan from London’s East End – a man about town with the world at his feet. Many of you will remember the iconic film starring Michael Caine.
Tunnel Visions: 27 – 28 April
University Campus Oldham
Tunnel Visions is an exploration of the mystery and intrigue of a forbidden place. Using new technologies and new writing to transform an undeveloped mill space, this piece of experimental theatre will submerge the audience in a total theatre experience, delving into what really lies beneath.
Dumb Show: 12 –30 June
By Joe Penhall
The Grange Arts Centre
Dumb Show is a fierce satire on the relationship between the morality of the press and the ethics of celebrity culture. This black comedy is even more relevant today than when it was when written in 2004.
Star-Cross’d: 12 – 22 July
By Ian Kershaw
Directed by Kevin Shaw
Alexandra Park
A brand new production written by Oldham born playwright Ian Kershaw. Star-Cross’d is a re-working of Shakespeare’s classic tale of doomed love Romeo and Juliet, set in Oldham. Robbie O, a typical tracksuit wearing Oldham lad, and Judy, a beautiful Bengali student of Oldham College, come from very different backgrounds and live very different lives.
When the star-crossed pair meet and fall in love, their relationship is faced with conflict from all sides. Staged at Alexandra Park in the heart of Oldham this production is specifically made for the town with the valued involvement of local brass bands, dance groups and Oldham Theatre Workshop.
The show will be a promenade performance, taking in the best architectural features of the park.
YouLEAD - Youth Opportunity Conference
