YouLEAD - Youth Opportunity Conference: 18 July 2012

A night for young people led by young people.

Oldham Coliseum Theatre has been running Theatre Pathways over the last two years under BIG Lottery funding and is now in its third year of providing arts career advice and mentorship for young people aged 14-25. As part of the third year the Coliseum will be supporting their young participants to stage an evening of careers advice centred on Pathways into the Creative Arts.

The event’s core purpose is to help young people in Oldham and the surrounding areas to learn how to engage, work and create a pathway in the arts and also look further into what opportunities Oldham has to offer for young people.

DigiLAB

DigiLAB introduces young people to backstage theatre. Working with an industry professional, and receiving support from the theatre’s technical team, you will learn all about new technology including filming, editing, graphic and digital design, lighting, sound engineering and much more.

As well as developing these new skills, you will also get the opportunity to use them in a performance context, in conjunction with TheatreLAB.

DigiLAB is open to all abilities and no previous experience with new technology is required to join. The group is perfect for anyone wishing to pursue a career in technical theatre or the media industry in general.

TheatreLAB

TheatreLAB gives young people the opportunity to create exciting new performance pieces within the unique environment of a professional theatre.

As part of the group you will get the chance to have your say in what you perform and the overall direction of TheatreLAB.

There is no minimum requirement to join TheatreLAB. Beginners, budding dramatists and everything in between are welcome.

Age Group: 13 – 25yrs
When: Mondays 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Pathways

Want to pursue a career in the theatre or a related industry but are not sure where to begin? With the arts industries becoming ever more competitive, Pathways, Oldham Coliseum Theatre’s career mentorship programme, is the perfect opportunity for you to get a head start.

Through Pathways you can explore the different types of theatre related career paths available, and receive guidance from people already working in the industry.

The Steering Group (TSG)

The Steering Group is the young people’s board for the Oldham Coliseum Theatre. It is a friendly group who meet twice a month to influence the drive and direction of the theatre.

This is your chance to have a say in the way the Coliseum is run, and be involved in important decisions around all aspects of the company. You will be working alongside like-minded young people, have involvement with staff from all departments, and really help to instigate change at this theatre.
